Mast objections top 180

MORE than 180 people have now objected to plans to build a 5G phone mast opposite Downend School.

Network operator Cignal Infrastructure UK wants to build the 15m (50ft) mast at the junction of Stockwell Close and Westerleigh Road on behalf of provider 3.

The company has applied to South Gloucestershire Council to determine whether prior approval is needed for the site and appearance of the mast, which would be twice the height of nearby lampposts.

However the number of people who have objected to the plans has now reached 186, with only six people writing in support, and many claiming the mast could be a health risk.

Frenchay & Downend ward councillor Liz Brennan, who said: “Although I support the progression of communications, I personally believe this mast would be much better visually suited to a different location.”

Downend and Bromley Heath Parish Council has raised no objection to the plans.

The application can be found on the council’s planning website by searching for application P23/02029/PN1.
