ORGANISERS of this year’s Downend Round Table Fireworks display have issued some last-minute advice to visitors.
The volunteer-run event will take place on King George V playing fields from 5.30pm on November 3, with the quieter children’s display at 6.30pm before the main display at 8pm.
People are being encouraged to walk or use public transport to the display, as there is no onsite parking, including disabled parking.
Traffic enforcement will be in operation throughout the event on nearby roads.
The site is close to stops on the 48 and 19 routes in Downend, with the Northcote Road stop for the 49 and Page Park stop for the 7 a short walk away.
Organisers are also encouraging people to cycle, although bikes will not be allowed on the event site itself.
People are being reminded not to bring sparklers to the display: a safe sparkler area will be set up for children to try them under supervision, in return for a small donation.
Scout and guide groups will be selling flashing and light-up toys throughout the site and have card payment machines for them.
Organisers say they have “massive stocks” of the toys and are calling on people to support the voluntary groups, rather than street traders selling them outside the event.
People are also being reminded that tickets are on sale in advance only, online at www.downendrt.co.uk, with no sales on the gate.
The last two displays sold out in advance and around half of this year’s tickets had already been sold by mid-October.
Longwell Green play hub BeWild, BeWeird, BeWonderful is running a service to look after any children separated from their parents.
The event will have a range of food and drink stalls, including a licensed bar, as well as rides and amusements.
All money raised at the event goes to local good causes – last year’s raised a record £50,000.
