A DOWNEND primary school has crowned a new conker champion.
Pupils from St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Primary School take part in a traditional conker competition as part of their harvest festival every year, playing each other in a knockout contest.
This year’s winner, Year 4 pupil Kiera Clarke, from Hazel Class, was awarded the school’s ‘conker man’ trophy and allowed to wear a special hat.
Head teacher Mark Hilliam said: “The annual conker competition is a wonderful tradition and something that we think is quite unique to St Augustine’s.
“The children love taking part and it is great to see how they all show our school values of respect and honesty as they play.”
Families also donate food to local charities as part of the festival.
