Thanks to the community
I’D like to thank all in the Mangotsfield community for their generosity in supporting fundraising events.
The Red Lion annual charity carol night which I led in December raised a fantastic £220 for Helping Homeless Believe.
A few days later at the Red Lion, Mike Heath and Matt Proud of the Mangotsfield Community Association presented a cheque to the value of £6,600 to Helen Mackie of the Motor Neurone Disease Association: money raised last year from many activities and events of the MCA.
Last year a cheque for the same amount was presented to St Peter’s Hospice.
Around another £500 was made on the day with a raffle.
The MCA have other charity events planned this year for both of these great charities.
Great work has been done by Mike, Matt, Karen Fox and Sarah Proud, supported by all in the MCA and the community.
Well done all!

Sign up for Frenchay 10k
ENTRIES are now open for the Frenchay 10k.
This year’s race, the 43rd edition, is being held on Sunday April 13 at 11am.
As usual, the race will follow a well-trodden route, through Snuff Mills and Oldbury Court, Frenchay and then eventually back to race headquarters at UWE Glenside Campus.
The race was conceived with the joint purpose of staging a well-organised run for serious runners and beginners alike and raising money for local charities. We’re very proud that, as ever, 100% of the proceeds of the run go to charity.
This year’s nominated charities are Bristol & Weston Hospital Charities, Friends of Page Park and Freewheelers (Bloodbikes).
Last year’s race raised £9,000 for our chosen charities and, since the race was first held in 1980, we estimate the amount raised for charities exceeds £200,000.
You can enter online at frenchay10k.co.uk now.

Bringing cheer to residents
RESIDENTS of Edgecumbe Lodge Residential Care Home experienced the true spirit of Christmas thanks to the generosity of local volunteers who brought music, laughter, and festive cheer to their celebrations.
Local volunteers Abigail Hegarty and Laura Mokana, along with their children, brightened the residents’ day with karaoke, singing, and shared treats.
Their enthusiasm and kindness left a lasting impression, creating cherished moments for everyone involved.
Christ Church Downend minister Anne Louise and three fellow volunteers played Christmas games and sang carols, bringing smiles and joy to the residents.
We’re so grateful to everyone who gave their time.
Edgecumbe Lodge invites others to get involved and make a difference. The next coffee afternoon takes place on January 31, offering a wonderful opportunity to connect with residents and spread joy.
