Fireworks spark joy for 47 good causes

DOWNEND Round Table has confirmed that this year’s annual fireworks display will be back at King George V Playing Fields on the first Friday in November.

The event will return on November 7, with its now-traditional format of two displays: a quieter show at 6.30pm designed specially for younger children before the spectacular main display at 8pm, choreographed to music by award-winning pyrotechnicians SkyBurst.

In between there will be a bonfire at 7.15pm, and throughout the evening there will be entertainment from MCs Party Peeps, a bar, food stalls and fairground, with a foam-filled after-party.

The event is run by volunteers from Downend Round Table, an organisation for men aged 18 to 45, with all profits going to local good causes.

The organisation has revealed more details of the charities that benefited from last year’s record total of £60,000 raised.

In total, 47 charities and community projects received donations. They included:

• Mothers for Mothers, a Bristol-based charity supporting families dealing with mental health challenges from pregnancy to early years.

• Oakdale Community Lifesavers, a Bromley Heath group providing life-saving training and resources.

• JIGSAW Thornbury, a charity helping children and young people with additional needs and their families.

• The Avon Centre, a horse-riding and nature therapy charity opportunities for people with disabilities.

• Emersons Green Village Hall, a venue supporting community events and activities in Emersons Green.

Round Table spokesperson Dan Upton-Arkless said:”Thanks to your support, Downend Round Table was able to make a real difference in our community, helping fund vital services, community projects, and support networks across our region.

“Whether you’re coming for the fireworks, the funfair, or to support a great cause, this is a night not to be missed. All proceeds go directly to supporting local charities and community initiatives.”

Tickets for this year’s display will go on sale in October.
