STAFF and students at SGS College have been celebrating “exceptional” results in A-level, T-level and BTEC exams.
The college, which has six main campuses from central Bristol and Filton to Stroud, has thousands of students across the region.
It said this year’s A-level overall pass rate, for grades A* to E, was 96.8% – up from last year’s 95.7%, with 35% of students achieving A*-B grades.
They included 50% of maths grades at A*-B, 83% of further maths, 53.4% of criminology and 46.7% of economics results at A*-B.
In Level 3 BTEC courses, 96% of students secured a pass grade and 33% achieved Distinction or Distinction* grades.
This year is the second where some students have picked up T-level results, for technically-based courses. The college continued its 100% record for T-level passes, with 65% of students achieving a Merit or Distinction.
The top achievers included Lara Moriarty and Ruby Ainger, who both achieved Distinctions in Early Years and Childcare.
Lara will study primary care at Durham University, while Ruby has a place on a childhood studies course at the University of the West of England.
They said: “Our tutor, Rosie Passaway, was continually supportive and went above and beyond when helping secure our placements and prepare our UCAS applications.”
Jacob Bevan has a place at Bath University to study electronic and electrical engineering after achieving A* and A grades in A-level maths, further maths and physics.
He says his dream job would be as an electrical engineer for British Antarctic Survey.
Leia Emery will study astrophysics at Edinburgh University after achieving high A-level grades in maths, further maths, physics and geography.
The college said some students were going on to study degrees including medicine, law and economics, with others starting jobs and higher-level apprenticeships.
Deputy principal Gavin Murray said: “Everyone here at SGS is incredibly proud of the exceptional results achieved by our students.
“These results and the qualifications gained are a testament to the hard work and diligence of each and every student, ably supported and inspired by their amazing team of specialist teachers and tutors.
“The diversity of our curriculum supports our commitment to inclusivity and personal development for all, and these results are proof of why this is such an important aspect of our approach to education at SGS.”
The college says academic study is balanced by personal development, with enrichment programmes in areas such as sport, science, creative writing and enterprise.
