A TEENAGE Downend kickboxer is looking for sponsors as he aims for a place on Team GB.
Sebastian Heyes, aged 14, took up the sport three years ago and has won medals in several competitions in the past two years.
Training with Epic Martial Arts in Lyde Green, Seb is hoping to win a place representing his country after he competes at the national championships in February.
Since winning two gold medals in the 2024 Bristol Open, Seb has gone on to win two Skill Striker contests, gold and silver medals at the Yokoso Dutch Open last March and bronze medals at the GB Grandslam contests in Bath and Crawley in April and June.
Seb said: “I love kickboxing. My coaches have helped me in so many ways including helping to manage my anger. It keeps me fit, as I train five days a week.
“My next goal is to place gold or silver in the Nationals in Loughborough in February, so I can achieve a place on the GB Team. I would also like to compete in more international competitions.”
Mum Kate Menear said: “Seb has an incredible passion for his sport.
“In a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming, kickboxing is where he truly shines.
“What makes me even prouder is that Seb doesn’t just focus on himself. He volunteers as a junior assistant coach, helping his instructors deliver classes to younger students.”
Coach Harrison Doyle said: “Seb is one of the most dedicated young fighters I’ve had the privilege to coach.
“His progression has been incredibly fast — not because of luck, but because of the hard work and consistency he puts in day after day.
“With the right support behind him, I truly believe Seb can continue rising through the ranks and make a real name for himself on the national and international competitive level.”
Seb is looking for sponsorship to pay for kit and equipment, entry fees and travel and accommodation for competitions, and Kate is appealing for businesses who would like to sponsor him to get in touch at k84u@hotmail.co.uk.
