TWO sisters are training to run the London Marathon for a charity close to their hearts.
Jen Davis and Mel Glanville will take on the 26-mile and 385-yard course in April to raise money for Marie Curie, which provides end of life nursing and hospice care.
The charity’s nurses cared for their grandad when he died at home in 2016, and Mel now works for Marie Curie, providing overnight end of life care for terminally ill patients in their own homes.
Jen and Mel grew up in Downend and Mangotsfield, and still live in the area.
This will be the first time they have taken on a marathon together: Jen has done the London Marathon once before, in 2023, and Mel has done a 10k and some parkruns.
Jen, who is a full-time foster carer, said: “We know it will be a challenge but want to run it and cross the finish line together.”
“It’s been tough fitting in the training, with Mel working nights as well as being a mum, but she fits it in around sleep.
“I have done lots on the treadmill when the kids are in bed, but am hoping to be out on the road more during March and April!”
Mel and Jen have set up individual donation pages on the marathon’s fundraising website, which can be found by searching for their names at 2026tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com.
They are aiming to raise £2,500 each.
Jen said: “Every five minutes someone dies without the care they need. That needs to change. “Marie Curie nurses provide nursing and hospice care whatever the illness. They also provide support and information on all aspects of dying, death and bereavement.”
