MANGOTSFIELD School students had a taste of the challenges and rewards on offer to engineers on a visit to a Bristol company.
The school’s design and technology department took 29 Year 8 pupils to Babcock International’s Stoke Gifford base for a day of activities including bridge and boat building challenges.
The Festival of Engineering event in March included software and electronic engineering tasks, driving robots and welding using cutting-edge virtual reality headsets.
Head teacher Hetty Blackmore said: “The students got a chance to speak to a range of representatives from engineering firms, as well as an opportunity to explore the Babcock General Logistics vehicle during its first ever visit to the site.
“The students performed brilliantly, excelling in their bridge designs, which beat many of the other schools’ efforts. It was a hugely informative and inspirational day.”
