DOWNEND Flyers’ Condors team are filling the club’s trophy cabinet during the summer tournament season.

The under-11s have won all three tournaments entered since early May, following an impressive and highly competitive league campaign.

Their first stop was the St Nicholas FC tournament in Chipping Sodbury. Across eight matches, the girls remained unbeaten, winning the tournament without conceding a single goal.

The following weekend, the team travelled down the M5 to Portishead and once again were unbeaten across eight games, conceding just two goals throughout the entire competition.

Most recently, the Condors went to Bridgwater, and turned in their most complete performance yet, winning all five matches without conceding a goal on their way to lifting another trophy.

While the trophies are a fantastic reward for their hard work, this season has been about much more than results.

The Condors squad have grown tremendously as both individuals and as a team. The development of every player has been wonderful to see, and their togetherness has become one of the team’s greatest strengths.

The Downend Flyers’ own tournament is due to take place on June 27-28, with more than 140 teams and around 1,000 girls taking part in a huge celebration of football.

Preparations are already under way for the women’s teams to return for pre-season training, with all three sides already having several friendly fixtures booked into the calendar.

The club is also looking for a sponsor for the Condors team, with businesses having the chance to put their name on the girls’ custom-designed kit.
