CHILDREN from Emersons Green Primary School won the opportunity to showcase their talent in the garden alongside the professionals at a prestigious show.
The school’s gardening club won the chance to create a display at the Royal Horticultural Society’s new Badminton flower show, held for the first time ever in July.
The young gardeners designed and created a planted wheelbarrow exhibit, drawing on the school’s ‘mighty futures’ motto to name it Nature is Mighty.
Head of School Soraya Young said: “Their inspiring entry captured the imagination of the judges with its powerful message of environmental renewal.
“The display told the story of how nature has transformed land that was once shaped by coal mining into the thriving green landscape enjoyed by the local community today.
“Through carefully-selected plants and creative design, the children demonstrated how wildlife and nature can flourish when given the opportunity.
“The project was a true team effort from start to finish. Gardening Club members spent weeks nurturing plants, carefully planning every aspect of their wheelbarrow design and bringing their vision to life.
“Their dedication and enthusiasm were rewarded when their creation was selected as a winning entry and showcased at the prestigious RHS Badminton event.
“During press day at the show, the pupils confidently spoke to visitors about their display, explaining the inspiration behind “Nature is Mighty” and sharing what they had learned throughout the project.
“Their passion for gardening and the environment impressed guests, making them excellent ambassadors for both their school and their local area.
“The success of the project is a testament to the hard work, creativity and teamwork shown by every member of the Gardening Club. It also highlights the importance of hands-on learning, giving children the opportunity to develop gardening skills, confidence and an appreciation for the natural world.
“None of this would have been possible without the dedication and encouragement of Gardening Club leaders Mrs White and Mrs Exton. Their enthusiasm, guidance and countless hours of support helped the children transform an ambitious idea into a winning display.”
