A MAN has appeared in court accused of murdering his wife following an incident at their home in Downend.
Geoffrey Billett, aged 68, of Overnhill Road, was arrested after emergency services were called to the couple’s home in the early hours of September 27.
They found 69-year-old Mrs Billett had been injured, and she was taken to hospital but died a few hours later.
Geoffrey Billett was later charged with the murder of his wife.
He appeared at Bristol Magistrates Court two days after the incident, before appearing again at Bristol Crown Court the following day.
Billett has been remanded in custody, ahead of a trial which has been set for March next year.
A police spokesperson said: “Mrs Billett’s family have been updated and they continue to be supported by specially-trained officers. Our thoughts are with the family, who understandably have asked for people to respect their privacy.
“We would remind people that due to ongoing court proceedings, no material, commentary or information should be published that would prevent a fair trial taking place.”
Superintendent Karen Corrigan said: “We know this news will cause great shock in the local community, but we would like to reassure everyone that we do not consider there to be any ongoing risk to the public.”
Police have appealed to anyone who has information they think could help the investigation into Mrs Billett’s death to come forward.
