Pupils play teachers in leavers’ show

A DOWNEND primary school’s leavers delighted parents, teachers and residents with an end-of-year performance reflecting on school life.

Year 6 pupils at Stanbridge Primary School put on their show, called ‘School Daze’, in the hall, with some children dressing up as members of staff as they recreated some funny and poignant primary school experiences.

The show was described as “funny, touching, and a great reflection of their school life” by one parent, who added: “They put lots of effort into it and they hit the nail on the head with what it is like to be a pupil at school.”

School Daze looked at some of pupils’ daily adventures and challenges, classroom antics, friendships and personal growth.

Teachers, parents, and pupils all worked together to create and put on the play.

Head of School David Payne said: “The Year 6 pupils not only acted but were also involved in the re-working of the script, designing the digital sets, and creating the costumes.

“Their hard work and dedication were evident in every aspect of the performance.  They also thoroughly enjoyed portraying teachers at the school and imitating their mannerisms!

“A real highlight is that every single child put 150% effort in – it was such a team performance.

“It makes such a difference to see such high levels of commitment from everyone.

“This Year 6 cohort leave us for the next chapter of their journey with such special memories.”

Mr Payne said the success of the show had left a lasting impression on the pupils, developing skills and giving them great memories of their time at the school.

He said: “As the final curtain fell, the audience gave a standing ovation, a fitting end to a performance that celebrated the joy, camaraderie, and educational journey of the Year 6 students at Stanbridge Primary School.”
