DOWNEND School said its students’ “strong set” of GCSE results reflected their hard work, resilience and determination.
Overall, 73% of Downend GCSE candidates achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and Maths, while 48% achieved a strong pass (grade 5 or above) in both subjects.
Head teacher Rachael Corns said: “These are excellent results, and a real testament to the hard work, resilience and determination of our students.
“I would like to congratulate every student on their achievements and thank our dedicated staff and supportive families for the important role they have played in helping our young people reach this point.
“These outcomes represent a significant achievement for our students and provide a strong foundation for their next steps beyond Year 11.
“We are incredibly proud of our students and the progress they have made. These results provide a strong platform for their next steps and we wish them every success for the future.”
The school said the results showed the “sustained commitment” shown by students throughout their time in secondary education.
Downend students are now moving on to a wide range of destinations, including studying A‑levels at the joint Downend and Mangotsfield Sixth Form, which is based at Downend School, moving to other sixth forms or colleges, starting apprenticeships or training.
