A SWIMMING club has capped its best ever year by winning British Swimming’s Club of the Year award.
The award is designed to recognise clubs and coaches who are the most successful in preparing their athletes to swim season’s best times at the British Summer Age Group Championships.
Soundwell Swimming Club, whose members train at Kingswood Leisure Centre and Winterbourne Academy, had seven swimmers competing – the most in its 61 year history.
There was a gold medal for Jack Brown in the 100m butterfly category, silvers for Jack in the 200m butterfly and Jake Gaunt in the 100m freestyle, and bronze medals for Rhys Dodd in the 100m breaststroke and Roger Davis in the 200m breaststroke.
The swimmers also qualified for seven other finals, including the boys 14 to 16-year-old 100m individual medal relay.
Chair Sarah Taylor said: “The Club of the Year Award is a tremendous achievement for Soundwell Swimming Club, and comes with financial support for our 2024 Swim Camp, as well as an invitation for me and our head coach, Jon Wills, to attend the British Swimming Annual Awards, which took place recently.”
The club’s swimmers also had record-breaking success at the English National Swimming Championships and English National Open Water Championships over the summer, with two gold, one silver and a bronze medal, as well as qualifying for another 15 finals.
They are now focussing on preparing for county, regional and national championships taking place over the next few months.
