CHILDREN at a Downend primary school are celebrating an “exceptional” result in this year’s SATs tests.
St Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Primary School’s Year 6 children achieved a 100% pass rate, with all 20 meeting the expected standard, in reading.
The school also saw 90% of Year 6 children meet the expected standard for maths and 95% for grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Standardised assessment tests or SATs are national exams children have to sit in Year 2 and Year 6, to measure progress in English and maths at primary school.
St Augustine’s head teacher Mark Hilliam said it was “very rare” for a school to see every child meet the expected standard.
He said: “We are all exceptionally proud of our Year 6 children and the staff for this exceptional achievement.
“It’s something worth celebrating, and caps off a really successful year for all of our learners across the school.”
