Saying thank you to our volunteers
AT Staple Hill Community Hub we feel like we add value to the community where we are based.
Although we are a small staff team, we have a huge number of dedicated volunteers who help to deliver a range of services: from our lunch club serving hot food, to helping those seeking paid work, exercise classes, singing groups and our Sprouts gardening club, for children and young people. We couldn’t do this without our volunteers!
Volunteers give their time for a variety of reasons, including being able to give back to their community and learning new skills.
For some it’s an hour or less a week, for some it’s more regular involvement – whatever suits them.
A recent survey suggested that volunteering adds a whopping £4.6 billion to the UK economy!
So the least we could do was to say a heartfelt “thank you” to our volunteers at a recent event at the Bean Tree Café in Page Park.
Chair of trustees Tracey McCarthy said: “The hub can only deliver the number of services they do with the support of volunteers.
“They regularly give up their time, and this is recognised by users of our services, staff and the board of the hub.
“One volunteer has been working at the hub for 20 years!
“We are like a big family, all coming together to make a huge difference in our community.
“We are always looking for new volunteers, regardless of how much time people have to spare.”
Please get in touch if you are interested in finding out more – you can reach us via the ‘contact us’ section of our website, staplehillcommunityhub.org.uk.
Our volunteers are back at Page Park at the end of October for our latest Fresh Air and Free Food Event during half-term.
A free breakfast for youngsters, containing a sandwich of jam or marmite or a flapjack, plus a piece of fruit and a carton of juice, is on offer on October 29, 30 and 31 from 10am-11am. Parents or accompanying adults get a free tea or coffee.
To make it an extra special spook-tactular event volunteers have promised to wear fancy dress! We also have scavenger hunts and other activities for children.
The event is free of charge. Matthew Pick
