Momentum builds for Downend Flyers

DOWNEND Flyers FC have hit their stride this month, with all teams back to regular fixtures following a difficult winter period.

Improved weather and lighter evenings have brought a noticeable lift across the club, with players enjoying consistent game time and a renewed sense of rhythm.

A significant milestone has been reached at Under-16 level, where both the Giants and Dragons sides are completing their final season in youth football.

The two teams have developed impressively over the years, and their progress reflects the commitment of players, coaches and parents alike.

For many, this transition is simply the next step. A number of players will continue within the club at Under-18 and women’s level, while coaches remain involved to support that progression.

The club also extends its thanks and best wishes to those moving on, and hopes they carry positive memories from their time at Downend Flyers.

At the younger end of the club, the Under-7 Robins and Crows have made an encouraging start to their football journeys.

Week by week they are building confidence, learning the game and, most importantly, enjoying it. Their energy has been matched by growing teamwork and resilience, both on and off the pitch.

Preparations are also underway for the club’s annual tournament at the end of June, a well-established event that will once again bring a large number of female players to Johnsons Road.

The day promises a strong mix of competitive football and community atmosphere.

Clubs interested in entering are encouraged to get in touch soon, with spaces filling quickly.

With the season entering its final stretch, there is plenty still to play for.

Several teams are involved in closely-contested league campaigns, with the coming weeks set to be decisive.

Downend Flyers FC look ahead to the run-in with focus and optimism as they aim to finish the 2026/27 season on a high.
