Runners ready to raise money

TWO members of a Staple Hill running group are preparing to run the London Marathon, then stage more events to help a charity.

Beverley Schuuring-Chin and John Kemp first met at a Staple Hill Runners session a couple of years ago and despite the age difference – retired teacher John is in his 70s and fitness trainer Beverley is in her 40s – they soon agreed to run two marathons together.

The London Marathon on April 26 is set to be the fourth they run together and their second for charity the MS Trust, chosen because one of John’s sons was diagnosed with the debilitating physical condition in his late 20s. Last year they raised £5,000 and they are aiming to raise the same amount this time around.

After the marathon Beverley, of Emerson’s Green, and John, of Siston Common, will hold a 24-hour cycling challenge at Warmley Waiting Room on May 16-17, with a “battle of the sexes” to see who can cover the greatest distance.

They will then hold a quiz night at Mangotsfield United FC in Cossham Street on May 23, covering a wide range of subjects and with prizes including port, wine and cinema tickets.

John and Beverley have a donations page at justgiving.com/page/bscjk and had raised more than £3,900 as the Voice went to print.
