AS part of the deal to allow new homes to be built, Taylor Wimpey will hand over playing fields it owns on Pomphrey Hill for permanent use by the community.
The developer owns 23,000 sq m (more than five acres) of land between Mangotsfield School and the ring road.
It says the fields will now be handed to South Gloucestershire Council “so they can remain in community use forever”.
A Taylor Wimpey spokesman said: “Pomphrey Hill playing fields play an important role in everyday life for many people in Mangotsfield.
“Our proposals would help secure a substantial part of the playing fields for community use forever. That is a major long-term benefit for Mangotsfield.”
The application was supported by Pomphrey Hill Community Sport Association, who told the committee: “If approved, this application would help ensure that Pomphrey Hill remains a place where people can play sport, exercise, volunteer, learn new skills, attend community activities, build friendships and strengthen their connection to the local area.”
Taylor Wimpey says it will make “significant contributions” towards community facilities, NHS provision, libraries and schools.
The company expects to have dealt with final planning details by the end of this year, with building anticipated to start next summer and the development finished by the end of 2029.
