A SINGING grandad and grandson who were a hit on TV show Britain’s Got Talent drew a large but relaxed crowd to Page Park.
Frankie Johns and Lucciano Mortimore were the best known of the acts to perform in this year’s Lazy Sunday Afternoon summer concert series in the park.
The duo sang, danced and chatted to an audience who sat on deck chairs and picnic blankets surrounding the bandstand in the late August sunshine.
During the act they left the bandstand to serenade the front row, and Frankie called out to concert-goers, some of whom had travelled from the other side of the Severn to listen to him and Lucciano, who lives in Wales.
Frankie, of Kingswood, and ten-year-old Lucciano provided one of the most memorable moments of the ITV talent show series this year, when Lucciano called his grandad out of the audience at the start of his audition, to sing a duet with him on stage.
The audition has been viewed more than three million times on YouTube, while Lucciano has been praised by singers Robbie Williams and Michael Bublé.
The free concert series was organised by Melody Beard of the park’s Bean Tree Cafe, supported by £500 each from South Gloucestershire Council and the Friends of Page Park to meet the cost of staging seven shows in July and August.
Friends vice-chair Steph Purser said: “The day of their concert there were well over a thousand people in the park.
“It was just one of the brilliant concerts we’ve had this year – Kelly Loveridge, who performed before Frankie and Lucciano, was also really good.
“When you see everyone coming together and enjoying themselves like that, it’s what the park is all about.”
