Tributes to bar owner Adam

TRIBUTES have been paid to the owner of a Staple Hill bar who has died, aged 59.

Adam Wills had owned Bar 501, on the corner of Broad Street and Soundwell Road since 2023, having bought into the business with the previous owners in 2014.

Described by his family as Staple Hill born and bred, he was also a big rugby fan, having played the sport while at St Brendan’s College, where he was a “huge part” of the team.

Adam died on October 29.

His children George, Terri and Becky said: “He was a devoted father to Terri, Becky, George, Laura, and Josh and a beloved grandad— a much-loved and respected man, and a popular member of the Staple Hill community.

“Dad, you have left a massive hole in our hearts and will be forever missed.”

Almost a hundred friends and customers left messages on the sports bar’s Facebook page after news of his death was announced, paying tribute to a great friend and “genuine gentleman”.

Around 300 people attended Adam’s funeral at Westerleigh Crematorium, in November, which was followed by a wake at Cleve Rugby Club in Mangotsfield.

Customers of Bar 501 gathered outside to send him off, as his cortège left for the funeral.

Donations in Adam’s memory can be made to Royal British Legion C/O H G Harris Funeral Directors, 2a Victoria Street, Staple Hill, BS16 5JS.
