CARSONS & Mangotsfield 1st team have finally wobbled, and now need to tighten the grip.
The warning shot came at Long Ashton, where they were 68-6 chasing 143, rescued only by Kieran Gallagher (50no) and Tour Ponting (45no).
Against unbeaten Frenchay, the innings duly imploded: no hero this time.
Bowled out for 118, they were saved from embarrassment only by a fierce bowling shift and a one-wicket margin, Jack Woodland’s 3-28 the bright spot.
Bristol Sri Lankans followed, with another defeat – the team’s first back-to-back league losses in over three years and a sharp reminder of how relentlessly consistent they’ve been while climbing the league.
The 2nd team have ricocheted between swagger and self-reproach.
Hampset and Bristol Mavericks handed out the reality checks, nudging them down a spot, although only behind the sides who clipped them.
The reset arrived smartly against Bristol Asians, Isaac Buckingham’s 4-32 tightening the vice and leaving 131 to chase, a job Ben Johnson (51no) and George Farmer (40no) knocked off with ease. They followed it with a statement win against Bristol Sri Lankans 2nds: after a collective batting push to 212, the Sri Lankans were bundled out for 139, Jamie McDowell (3-33) and Sam Holbrook (3-22) sharing the spoils.
The 3rd team are still chasing that elusive first win, and it’s close enough to feel cruel. A three-run defeat to Brislington (230-6) saw Ian Coles (41) and Pieter Hougaard (67) almost drag them over the line.
The Sunday side enjoyed a six-game winning streak, skipper George Farmer scoring 110 and Jack Woodland 44 of the side’s 204 against Bradley Stoke & Almondsbury, with Craig Woodland’s 3-48 keeping the chase at arm’s length.
The streak ended with defeat to Old Cathedralians. Sam Holbrook (4-12) restricted them to 133 but the side were all out for 111.
