BROWNIES held a festival-themed camp complete with face-painting, tie-dye making and campfire pizzas.
In all, 17 girls from the 2nd Mangotsfield Brownies, who meet every week at St James’ Church Hall, took part in Browniefest, a two-night camp at Briarlands Activity Centre in Bitton in June.
The brownies, who mainly come from Emersons Green and Mangotsfield, were joined by four other members of the group and more girls from the 23rd St Augustine’s group for the day on the Saturday of the weekend.
Leaders Laura McCombe and Ruth Kavanagh said: “For some of the girls it was their very first time camping, and they wasted no time getting stuck in – pitching their own tents on arrival before settling down for the first evening.
“The weekend was packed with activities.
“The girls created their own tie-dye designs, had their faces painted with beautiful flowers, and made campfire pizzas.
“They also enjoyed classic outdoor favourites including parachute games, giant bubbles, learnt to tie knots and plenty of campfire moments.
“Watching the girls grow in confidence over the weekend was incredible. From pitching their own tents to trying new things, they absolutely rose to the challenge – we couldn’t be prouder.
“The camp would not have been possible without the support of fellow leaders Liz, Stacy, Jo and Rhian, and young leaders Emily and Annie, who helped make the weekend the success it was.”
