PEOPLE who have moved to the region from around the world shared their music, dance and culture at a free festival in Page Park.
Around 1,000 people attended the Celebrate With Me event organised by charity Movema and the Bean Tree Café in Page Park at the end of June – and as well as watching the performances, many took the opportunity to join in.
It was part of the Bristol Refugee Festival, and followed a series of Refugee Week events elsewhere in the region.
The event included a K-pop dance display from Me Time Cafe, which brings together people who have moved to the region from Hong Kong, an Afro-Cuban drumming workshop, singing by the Kozachky Ukrainian Choir and dance styles from Colombia, Peru and India.
There was also music from Senegal and Eastern Europe, henna art, yoga, a children’s bubble show, storytelling and a presentation on Nigerian cultural dress by an asylum seeker who is living in the area and was the event’s ambassador.
Bean Tree Café owner Melody Beard said: “It was a great atmosphere, and the community enjoyed the addition of the well-being area this year.
“The bubbles were a huge hit, so they will make a return next year!”
It is the fifth time the event has been held, and a return to Page Park after it was held in Kingswood last year.
The event was also supported by South Gloucestershire Council, South Gloucestershire Race Equality Network and the Friends of Page Park.
A Movema spokesperson said: “Well done to all the performers and facilitators – their passion, creativity, and dedication created a fantastic atmosphere filled with community spirit, brilliant engagement, and joyful connections.
“It was a beautiful celebration of the many cultures that enrich our communities.”
