A PRE-SCHOOL in Staple Hill has improved thanks to its leaders’ hard work, says Ofsted.
An inspector who visited Little Sheep Pre-School, based at Staple Hill Methodist Church on the High Street, says it now meets expected standards in all areas: achievement; behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines; children’s welfare and well-being; curriculum and teaching; inclusion; leadership and governance.
The education regulator returned to the pre-school in June, just over a month after publishing a report that said it required ‘urgent improvement’ in five out of six areas.
In the latest report, published in August, inspector Sarah-Louise Clements said: “Leaders have worked hard since the last inspection to implement high expectations for behaviour and attitudes.
“They have introduced clear routines and consistent approaches, which staff follow consistently to create a calm and predictable environment.”
Since the previous inspection in January, Ofsted says there is a stronger curriculum and “more organised, calm and purposeful learning environment” at the pre-school, which has 21 places for children aged two to four.
The inspector said: “Staff report that they feel well supported, and recent changes to leadership have had a positive impact across the whole setting.
“Children feel safe, settled and cared for in a calm and welcoming environment. They build trusting relationships with staff, who know them well and respond sensitively to their needs.
“Children enjoy their learning and show curiosity in the experiences provided.”
The report said children at the pre-school develop independence and resilience, and feel “included and valued”.
The inspector said: “Staff welcome families and involve them in events and celebrations, helping children feel a sense of belonging. Children are happy, engaged and develop the skills they need for their next steps of learning, including school.”
The pre-school’s management committee said it was “delighted” with the new report, which “reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment shown by the team over recent months”.
Manager Ellie Brooks said: “Every member of staff has shown a genuine commitment to creating a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment where children can flourish.
“We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved together.
“I would like to thank our wonderful families for their support and encouragement throughout this journey.
“Their confidence in us has been invaluable as we have worked to turn the preschool around and build a positive future for our children.”
