A SOUNDWELL man who dumped three fridges in a street was tracked down and ordered to pay more than £1,400 in fines and costs.
South Gloucestershire Council prosecuted David Whitfield, aged 51, of Soundwell Road after the fridges were dumped on the side of nearby North View in June.
Council environmental enforcement officers investigated and found CCTV from a nearby property that had captured the offence on video.
The council said the footage showed a blue Peugeot Expert van park at the side of the road and a man – later identified as Whitfield – get out and leave the fridges and a roll of carpet blocking the pavement.
They piked up the vehicle’s registration number and Whitfield, who was the registered keeper, was contacted and went to an interview at the council’s Yate offices in August.
After being shown pictures and the CCTV of him being caught in the act, confirmed he was responsible.
At Bristol Magistrates Court on November 11 he pleaded guilty to fly-tipping and told to pay a £320 fine, £969 in costs and a £128 victim surcharge, making a total of £1,417.
Afterwards council cabinet member for environmental enforcement Sean Rhodes said: “We take fly-tipping and illegal waste disposal very seriously, as it can have a serious impact on the environment and communities.
“South Gloucestershire Council always pursues fly-tip related prosecutions through the courts. Our award-winning environmental enforcement team has a 100 per cent record of securing successful prosecutions for this type of offence.”
