Fireworks ready for lift-off

ownenORGANISERS of this year’s Downend Round Table Fireworks display have issued some last-minute advice for people coming along.

The display is one of the biggest in the region and will bring more than 10,000 people to King George V playing fields on Friday, November 7.

Round Table says tickets for the event – which raises money for good causes in the area – are selling fast, and expected to sell out before the day.

The voluntary group is advising visitors that no tickets will be available on the gate, and warning people to be vigilant about third-party sales, with the only official online sales taking place at the www.downendrt.co.uk website.

They are advising people to travel to the site on foot or via public transport if possible, as there is no parking on site and the area is expected to be very busy.

No parking is available on-site, and parking is also restricted on Westerleigh Road, Badminton Road, Sutherland Avenue, Farm Road, Farm Court, Cleve Road, Garnett Place and Peache Road, with enforcement being carried out.

The park entrance on Westerleigh Road is usually the busiest, so organisers are recommending people who don’t want to queue for as long to use the quieter entrances on Sutherland Avenue and Kimberley Close.

Gates will open at 5.30pm, with the family-friendly reduced-noise fireworks show taking place at 6.30pm.

The bonfire will be lit at 7.15pm, with the main display following at 8pm.

It is being delivered by SkyBurst, winners of the British Firework Championships in 2023.

Afterwards there will be a foam party and music led by hosts Party Peeps, until around 9pm.

As well as a variety of food and drink stalls, including a licensed bar, the Round Table is selling glow-in-the-dark accessories that can be pre-ordered and collected on the night, with proceeds going to charity. Street traders outside are not affiliated with the Round Table.

Downend Round Table Chairman Ed Curzon-Lewis said: “We have fantastic support year after year, which really makes the volunteers feel amazing.

“This year we’ll have over a hundred additional helpers from Scouts, Guides, Cadets, local churches and charities – even our amazing sponsors CJ Hole are pitching in.

“Our 1,500 Early Bird tickets sold out in less than 36 hours, so please don’t delay – we hate having to disappoint people.

“This event is more than just fireworks – it’s a celebration of community. All profits go directly to local charities and projects supported by Downend Round Table. Last year alone, over £60,000 was donated to causes making a real difference across the area.”
