Volunteers’ hard work rewarded

VOLUNTEERS who help keep Mangotsfield tidy have been given awards for their outstanding service to the community.

Pete and Diane Vill, and Chris Rose were presented with certificates by Mangotsfield Residents Association and South Gloucestershire ward councillors for Staple Hill & Mangotsfield during September’s ‘hour a month’ work session organised by the MRA.

Councillor Michael Bell and MRA chair Clive Heath said: “Pete is the association’s handyman, and was instrumental in creating the nativity scene in the Dame School which has become so popular every Christmas, putting up our Christmas Lights, making the wooden planters placed around the village and many more improvements.

“Diane has tended to the Dame School garden, planting and weeding throughout the year, and is a regular attendee of the monthly MRA work parties.

“Chris willingly litter picks in both Mangotsfield and Staple Hill, both in groups and often on his own.

“In addition, he cares for a small garden in front of the Walker Court Flats and helps out with the plants in Fountain Square in Staple Hill.”
