CARSONS and Mangotsfield Cricket Club celebrated a successful season with their end of season dinner in the Pavilion bar at Pomphrey Hill.
The guest of honour was Gloucestershire County Cricket Club head coach Mark Alleyne.
Outgoing club chair Andy King reflected on the season.
The first team had been in a tight race for promotion throughout the season and managed to move into second position following a win in the penultimate game of the season.
With extensive rain on the last day of the season, all games were cancelled, which meant the team secured the runners-up spot.
The team will now play in Division 3 of the Bristol and District Cricket League.
They also had a long run in the Bristol and District Cricket Association’s Tony Hitch Knockout Cup, beating teams in higher divisions on their way to the final, which they lost to local rivals Coalpit Heath.
The second team did well in their first season in Division 7 East, finishing in a commendable third position.
The 3rds and 4ths also had good seasons in their respective divisions.
Mark congratulated the club in his speech and talked about the importance of club cricket to the professional game.
He also spent time speaking to some of the younger members of the club at the end of the dinner.
The final part of the dinner was the presentation of awards.
The club’s ‘Person of the Year’ award went to Chelsea Brayley, for her work as social secretary.
