A VILLAGE primary school is celebrating being ranked the number 1 primary school in South Gloucestershire in the latest performance tables.
Hambrook Primary School also outscored all of Bristol’s primary schools in the Department for Education tables for the number of pupils achieving the expected standard in Year 6 SATs, which were published in December.
It is the second year running that the primary school in Moorend Road, which had 30 pupils sitting standard assessment tests in 2025, has been ranked first in the performance tables for its category.
Head teacher Jennifer Rubel said the figure of 93% of pupils reaching the standard in reading and maths, with 27% attaining a higher standard, places the school in the top 0.7% of schools nationally.
Elsewhere, Frenchay C of E primary saw 78% of its 27 pupils sitting SATs reach the expected standard, placing it eighth on the table, with Mangotsfield C of E Primary ninth: 78% of its 88 SATs candidates met the target.
At Christ Church Junior School the figure was 75%.
Other local schools’ percentages were: Blackhorse Primary 73%, Emersons Green 72%, Stanbridge 63%, Bromley Heath 62%, Lyde Green and Staple Hill 56%, the Tynings 53%, Barley Close 47% and St Augustine of Canterbury 46%.
Mrs Rubel said: “This exceptional achievement reflects the school’s sustained commitment to excellence and the tireless work of its team.
“We are immensely proud of the school’s achievements and of the consistency that has enabled us to retain this title for the second year in a row.
“Our focus remains firmly on providing the very best education and opportunities for every child.
“Staff work tirelessly to ensure all pupils thrive in every area of school life and our academic results are a testament to the strength of the provision we offer.
“Hambrook Primary School would like to thank its pupils, families, staff and the wider community for their continued support, which has been central to this success.”
The school also appeared seventh in the South West on a table of the best primary schools compiled by the Sunday Times Parent Power series, above other South Gloucestershire and Bristol schools.
The newspaper’s league tables are based on 2024’s SATs, taking average scaled scores in maths, reading, grammar, punctuation, and spelling and combining their outcomes, with extra weighting given to those schools with more children achieving the score.
