School runners are cross-country champs

A TEAM of young runners from Bromley Heath Junior School ran through rain, mud, and freezing temperatures to train for a cross-country championship.

The 47 members of the after-school running club saw their hard work pay off when they won the three-week South Gloucestershire cross-country series in April.

Their success was thanks to two strong team performances, with the Girls’ Team A and Boys Team B both securing second place overall in their competitions.

Head teacher Tracy Serle said: “The children’s resilience, courage and positivity was simply amazing! We are so proud of all the runners for giving it their all and representing the school so wonderfully.

“The success of this club is a testament to the dedication of Mr Adamson. As a class teacher and the driving force behind the running club, his inspiration, expert advice, and unwavering support gave the children the platform they needed to shine.

“His enthusiasm is infectious, and we are so lucky to have him providing these opportunities for the children to push themselves, feel proud and succeed.

“While the trophies are a wonderful bonus, the real triumph was seeing the school’s core values—respect, responsibility, resilience, courage, positivity, and kindness—brought to life.

“From the runner who pushed through to finish their race, to the teammates cheering at the finish line until the very last person crossed, the children showed that character matters just as much as pace. Every single child who participated, demonstrated incredible grit and a ‘never-give-up’ attitude that left parents and teachers beaming with pride.”
