ONE of Mangotsfield’s football teams is merging with another side ahead of the new season.
AFC Mangotsfield has announced a partnership with Tytherington Rocks, which has left its home in a village near Thornbury, to form AFC Mangotsfield Rocks.
Rocks will be based at Mangotsfield United’s Cossham Street ground, and will compete in the Bristol Premier Combination, Bristol & District League and Gloucestershire County League.
A statement on the AFC Mangotsfield twitter page in June said: “This partnership sees our family at Cossham Street grow again, offering even more opportunities for local people and young players within our partners clubs youth setups by further extending the player pathway.”
Rocks said: “After 88 years of representing the village of Tytherington, we have been left with no option but to vacate our home ground.”
The side blamed the village’s parish council for a “lack of support” and said: “While we are saddened by these circumstances, we are also excited to announce a new chapter for the club.
“This partnership creates a strong and sustainable structure, with first, second and third teams, alongside valuable links with Mangotsfield United and the Mangotsfield United Under-18 pathway.
