A SCHOOL’S success in raising achievement and building positive relationships with pupils and parents has been highlighted by Ofsted.
The education regulator visited Staple Hill Primary School, in Page Road, in June.
The team of three inspectors said the school met Ofsted’s expected standard in all areas: achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and teaching, Early Years, inclusion, leadership and governance, and personal development and well-being.
Their report said: “Pupils are happy and safe. They are proud of their school and feel a sense of belonging.
“Staff build positive, caring relationships with pupils. They know pupils’ individuals needs well and build trusting partnerships with parents. Parents speak highly of the care and support that their children receive.
“In Reception Year, children get off to a good start.
“Pupils of all ages receive effective teaching.
“The curriculum builds the foundations that pupils need in reading, writing and mathematics. As a result, they are generally well prepared for their next steps in education.”
The inspectors said pupils’ achievement is broadly in line with national averages, with children who need extra help given “effective support” to achieve well.
Pupils are enthusiastic about the school’s “wider curriculum”, including learning French and developing skills in PE.
The inspectors praised the school’s leadership, saying: “School and trust leaders share an ambitious vision for pupils.
“Leaders understand the school’s strengths and priorities for development.
“They take purposeful action to make improvements.
“Leaders have raised attendance and made improvements to the curriculum. These successes have raised pupils’ achievement.”
The inspectors also praised the school’s “strong partnerships” with parents, and good work with external professionals and the community.
Head teacher Sharon Boult said: “I would like to personally thank all the parents who spoke to the inspectors, answered the survey or wrote in.
“It was lovely to hear all their positive comments.”
Ross Newman, chief executive of the Leaf Trust, which runs the school, said: “There is much to celebrate throughout the report.
