LEADERS at Winterbourne Academy have hailed the “brilliant outcomes” achieved by A-level and vocational course students this summer.
The school, which has many young people from Downend, Frenchay, Emersons Green and Lyde Green among its pupils, said 22% of A-level grades were A* or A, while 72% were at A*-C.
On vocational courses, 72% of grades were Distinction* or Distinction.
Overall there was a 98% pass rate, and the school highlighted strong results in A-level drama, where 100% of grades were at A* to B, Spanish (78% A*-B) business (73%), religious studies (67%), and physics (63%).
In vocational courses, 100% of BTEC engineering students achieved Distinction* or Distinction grades, with 83% doing so in CTEC Media and 77% in CTEC Sport.
Among those whose achievements have been highlighted by the school are Isaac Ahmed, who is deciding whether to continue his studies at university or join the RAF after achieving an A* in maths, an A in physics and Bs in computer science and further maths.
Michelle Chan will study accounting and finance at Exeter University after achieving As in business, maths and psychology.
Stephen Coney will start an engineering apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce after achieving a Distinction* in engineering, A* in physics and A in maths.
Alice Gregory will study computer science at Southampton University after achieving an A* in maths, As in computer science and physics, and a B in further maths.
Harry Kerslake, with As in business and economics and a B in Maths, is starting an accounting apprenticeship with PK Francis, while Sienna King will start a legal apprenticeship with Burges Salmon, after achieving As in law and psychology and a B in Spanish.
Erica Masters will study politics and international relations at Birmingham University, after achieving an A* in business and As in psychology and Spanish.
Dulcie Phillips is deciding whether to continue her studies at Oxford or Cardiff after achieving three As in biology, history and maths and a B in French.
Sam Richer-Coward will study chemistry at Bristol University after gaining A*s in biology, chemistry and maths.
Head teacher Jenny Cartwright said: “I know that the students and the amazing teachers and pastoral staff at Winterbourne have worked so hard together to make these possible.
“We are proud of all of the results across our sixth form – behind each grade is a story of a young person who has striven hard, sometimes in challenging circumstances, to gain their outcomes and secure their next steps, and they should feel proud of what they have achieved.”
