STUDENTS at SGS Sixth performed above national benchmarks in a number of subjects in this summer’s A-levels.
The sixth form, based in Filton, draws students from across the region and is part of the wider SGS College with campuses from Stroud to Bristol.
The college said that SGS Sixth students sat a total of 595 A-levels, with a 96% pass rate and 205 (34.5%) grades at A-B*, including 70 (11.8%) at A* or A.
A spokesperson said: “Biology, psychology, criminology and core maths all performed above their respective national achievement benchmarks.
“Biology was a particular standout, with a 100% pass rate, achievement 10.2% above its national benchmark, and 46% of grades at A*-B.
“Year 2 criminology performed 12.8% above its national achievement benchmark, while psychology recorded a 100% pass rate.
“Mathematics also achieved a 100% pass rate, with 44% of grades at A*-B.”
SGS interim director of sixth form Hazel Budd said: “Results day is such a special moment, because you see plans students have talked about for months turning into something tangible.
“Across SGS Sixth there have been celebrations, relief, hugs, calls home and plenty of conversations about the future.
“Students are celebrating A Level results today, with university places confirmed, new opportunities opening up and months of planning turning into decisions about the future.
“We are incredibly proud of their results, but also of the confidence, independence and determination they have developed during their time with us.
“Behind every grade is an ambition, a next step and, often, a story of what it took to get there.”
One SGS Sixth student is heading to Bristol University to study law after achieving A* grades in law and her Extended Project Qualification, along with As in psychology and sociology.
Another is planning to study dentistry at Liverpool University after taking a gap year, after achieving three As.
Another SGS Sixth student overcame back surgery and family illnesses to win a place at the University of the West of England to study physiotherapy, after achieving three Bs.
Vice principal for teaching, learning and assessment Alex Gaiger said: “It’s about journeys and opportunities, and there are so many students that are going on brilliant things.”
