POLICE are carrying out extra patrols along the length of the Bristol & Bath Railway Path after a man was stabbed.
Two teenagers have been arrested after the attack, which took place in Bitton at about 8pm on August 11.
Avon & Somerset police said the injured man, who is in his 30s, was taken to hospital with what police described as “non-life-threatening injuries”. He was wounded on a section of the path near the Avon Valley Railway’s Bitton station, which was sealed off after the incident while forensic investigations took place.
A police spokesperson said one teenage boy was arrested on the night of the incident and a second the following afternoon. Both were released on bail while enquiries continue, with conditions including not entering the railway path and an overnight curfew.
Inspector Barny Mabbett said: “Uniformed officers are conducting patrols along the railway path to provide reassurance, because we recognise an incident like this does inevitably cause concern. We encourage anyone with concerns to please speak to those officers.
“We would ask anyone who encounters any antisocial behaviour or criminality to report it to us, as this allows us to target our resources in the most effective areas where they are most needed. Our investigation into what happened is ongoing; we are also working with other organisations around making sure the path is a safe place for people to enjoy and use both in the short-term and long-term.”
South Gloucestershire Council was due to finish work to install 20 permanent CCTV cameras on the path between Staple Hill Tunnel and the former Mangotsfield Station during August.
Police are urging anyone who does report an incident to give the precise location using an app like What3Words to locate it.
