AN inquest has been told there is no evidence anyone else was involved in the death of a Frenchay man whose body was found in the River Frome.
Luis Piovesana went missing after getting out of a taxi on the M32 near Eastville on February 28 last year.
The engineer’s body was found in the river at Eastville three days later, following a search by police and his family, friends and other volunteers.
Luis, aged 26, had been at the Jam Jar venue in St Jude’s, in central Bristol, before getting into a taxi. He got out of the taxi soon afterwards after leaving a message for his girlfriend, apparently in distress and feeling that he was in danger.
Luis then called police to tell them he was on the M32, and another member of the public also called to report a pedestrian on the motorway.
The inquest into his death in August heard Luis had taken psychedelic magic mushrooms and alcohol before he disappeared – something he had done before without incident.
Police told the hearing at Avon Coroner’s Court that CCTV footage taken in Eastgate Retail Park, near to where his body was found, showed Luis moving erratically and clearly “intoxicated”.
No one else could be seen in the footage and officers said they had ruled out anyone else being involved, but it wasn’t clear where and how Luis ended up in the water.
Coroner Dr Peter Harrowing recorded a narrative conclusion at Luis’s inquest, saying: “How he came to the water has not been established.”
After the inquest Luis’s sister Lulu, who attended the hearing, told ITV the family had been left with “more questions” after the hearing, adding: “We’ll never know what happened that night.”
