Show back on common

FRENCHAY Flower Show is returning to the “heart of the village” this year.

This year’s event will take place on Frenchay Common on July 11 from 10.30am, having moved to Frenchay Parklands on the former hospital grounds last year.

The show will include more than 60 stalls, activities from carving and painting to engineering, live music and a K-Pop dance troupe.

In the marquee there will be more than 200 classes to enter, from flowers, plants, and vegetables to art, photography, cookery and handicrafts, with 28 children’s categories.

This year the event will hold its first fun dog show, with a “light-hearted, family-friendly focus” and seven classes to enter.

There will be blue badge parking nearby and free parking at Frenchay Parklands.

Flower Show chairman Mark Woolley said: “We really wanted to bring the show into the heart of the village this year and we felt that Frenchay Common by the parish church would be ideal.

“It’s a stunning location. The site is actually smaller than last year but it will have better accessibility for people with mobility issues, and there are more activities on the site.”

The cost of tickets has been reduced this year, to £6 online before July 1 and £8 after that, with accompanied children under 16 free.

Mark said the move back to a smaller site had enabled the committee to reduce costs.

Organisers are looking for volunteers to help on the gate or provide stewarding and support on the day and in the lead-up, with free entry to the show for anyone who helps for two hours or more.

They are also on the lookout for owners of classic pre-1980 cars or bikes to be part of the show’s vehicle display.

Entries of exhibits for the marquee are free, and open until July 8. People can enter and buy tickets at www.frenchayflowershow.com.
