Downend win again

DOWNEND Cricket Club’s First XI chalked up their fifth win of the season by 25 runs over Clevedon.

Opener Callum Loud top-scored with 90, followed by Ben Ford on 59 and Mohamed Jezuli on 52 not out as the side ran up 367 for 5 at the WG Grace Memorial Ground on June 20.

In reply, Clevedon lost their last wicket in the final over for a total of 342, with Downend bowlers Matthew Jackson, Ross Robbins, Henry Cheal and Abdul Sami each getting a brace of wickets.

The win sees Downend continue their push for promotion from the Premier 2 Bristol and Somerset division – they have won four of their last five matches.

The 2nd XI are looking to end a losing streak, while the 3rds have won the last three of their matches to be played.

After losing their first fixture against Hanham, the Women’s 1st XI have now won three on the bounce against Bristol, Frocester and Tetbury.
